Overview

Intro

Cheese Burger is a project my classmates and I did for the graduation project. Its goal is to offer a social network for professional designers and the design markets. With a firm structure and mechanism, it provides a transparent, safe, and respectful job-searching environment for designers and employers who are looking for talents. Moreover, the functions and services Cheese Burger provides can let employers and designers understand each other better. This platform solves the problems that designers face in the recruitment environment by implementing a user-friendly design.

Problem

As designers, we sensed the unfriendly environment of design employment in Taiwan. Many parents even prohibit their children from studying design-related departments when they go to college. We frequently heard the following problems: for employers, many companies do not put much emphasis on design or they do not even know how to find a designer that fits their needs; for designers, low salary, the lengthy and ineffective interview process, and so on are always the concern. It told us that there were problems in the design employment that we could solve.

Solution

We decided to build an online platform to solve the overall problems both designers and employers met in the design employment.

My Contribution

I led the design of the user interview outline and designed the survey for digging out the user’s insight. Also, I took charge of inviting interviewers through Facebook or LinkedIn and led the overall interviews through questions we designed.

After research, I analyzed the survey and interviews results to build the persona. Moreover, I designed the app structure, wireframe, and cooperate to finalize UIs with Kida Shu.

Eventually, during the final competition within the Design Department, I presented our product to professors and take over the Q&A sessions. Eventually, it won the gold medal award from about ten groups of projects.

Research

We released a survey through Facebook and to every community we are in for digging out the problems in designers’ minds. We collected 500+ results of designers and employers. After completing the quantitative survey with the wide public, we turned to listen to experts and employers in the design markets, including 15 design leads, human resources, headhunters, executives of many successful companies, etc.

Competitor Analysis

We researched the biggest used 4 recruitment websites in Taiwan, which are 104 Human Resource Bank, Yourator, mit.jobs, Linkedin.

For Employers

Find non-matched abilities of talents after admission

Unclear portfolio design makes us hard to identify designers’ abilities.

The recruitment process is always long complicated.

For Designers

Don’t know whether they match the job described on recruitment websites.

Unpleasant spec work experience

Freshmen don’t know what employers or design manager want to see from their portfolio.

Design Goals

Build a friendly platform for both designers and employers.

Being able to help release the tension of designers when they face recruitment and allow employers or HR to reduce wasting time and focus on the talents they are searching for.

 Structure

Revolutionary Talents-Searching Service

We improved the talents-searching service by strengthening presentations of designers’ works. Enterprises can filter out talented designers who suit their team the best with machine learning technology. As a result, by recruiting more employees, the platform will suggest the best-fitted talents to employers next time.

Passive Job Searching

Unlike the previous way of job searching on other platforms, we created an additional way called "Passive Job Searching," which works for designers by posting their ideal jobs and treatments to let employers find them back. This way, the job matching process can be accelerated, and the conflicts for reaching the consensus of welfare can also be reduced.

Moreover, with big data of designers' ideal jobs and treatments, enterprises can now know the right and reasonable treatments when opening a new job.

Targeted Portfolio

Applying for different positions needs different targeted portfolios. Select the works related to jobs and collect them to be a targeted portfolio. This way helps designers present themselves better and make enterprises know them better at the same time. While they want to find another job, designers can save tons of time by recreating a new portfolio from 0 to 1.

Creative Guiding

Thousands of professional works are presented on the platform. Designers can grab ideas and learn how to do portfolios effectively and wisely. Moreover, CheeseBurger emphasizes the "Process" of each work, which can make employers understand the logic and strategies behind the image and understand designers’ abilities more. Also, it can let junior designers think more about "why I do it?" rather than sheer showing beautiful objects without logic.

Improve Yourselves with Big Data

Big data is widely used nowadays. We applied this concept to help designers hold a more precise sense of their level in the talents markets and help them improve themselves by discovering various works on the platform.

In Cheese Burger, design works now can be divided by designers’ payment, working experiences, skills, etc. Therefore, designers can compare themselves with the other designers and observe the market trends.

Online Test Assurance

Designers can take design tests through our system and sign the contract to protect their intellectual property rights. Also, enterprises can protect their tests' privacy.

Through Cheese Burger, taking design tests is more trustworthy and reliable. By noticing the efforts taken behind the works, employers will realize that even a design test needs a benefit, or designers will think they are just wasting time.

Arranging Interview Automatically

By displaying the whole team's calendar together, HR can easily find everyone's free time and create a new event even on the phone. By linking the job openings with interviewees' calendars, Cheese Burger will automatically arrange and make the most available interview times for each candidate and employer. It tremendously reduces the time of managing multiple phases of interviews for various designers.

Quick Rating and Comparing

Employers can add tests to job openings and send them to every candidate. Moreover, after each interview or reviewing the tests, employers can quickly rate interviewers on the platform together and see the auto-generated average ratings of each designer. This mechanism helps enterprises select the talents with the highest rating within their team quickly and effectively.

What I learned

Each skill like wireframe, hi-fi design, methods of interview, doing surveys, the skills of analyzing the researching data, persona making, etc. Aside from project skills, the most essential benefits are the points of view of those experts we interviewed. Those precious insights could not be gotten if we did not conduct this project.
